The Story of Cain and Abel
Adam and Eve had two sons. Cain, the older, worked the ground as a farmer. Abel, the younger, kept flocks as a shepherd.
In time, both brothers brought offerings to God. Cain brought some of the fruit of the ground. Abel brought the best of his flock, the firstborn and the fat portions.
God looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but he did not accept Cain’s. Cain became very angry, and his face fell.
God spoke to Cain and warned him plainly. Sin was crouching at the door, desiring to have him, but he must rule over it. The choice was still his to make.
Cain did not listen. He led his brother out to the field and killed him. When God asked where Abel was, Cain answered, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” For this, Cain was sent away to wander in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
