The Story of Creation
In the beginning, the earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep. Then God spoke: “Let there be light.” On the first day He separated the light from the darkness, calling one day and the other night.
On the second day God made the sky to divide the waters. On the third day He gathered the waters into seas and let dry land appear, then filled the earth with grass, plants, and fruit trees, each bearing seed of its own kind.
On the fourth day God set the sun to rule the day and the moon and stars to shine at night. On the fifth day He filled the seas with living creatures and sent birds flying across the open sky.
On the sixth day God made the animals that walk the land. Then He made humankind, both male and female, in His own image. He formed Adam and Eve and gave them care over all the living things He had made.
At every step God saw that it was good. When the work was finished, He looked at all He had made and called it very good. On the seventh day God rested, and He blessed that day and set it apart.
